Optimizing for Limited Bandwidth: Building Fast Sites for the African Market

TL;DR: A 10MB hero video looks cool in New York. In rural Ethiopia, it looks like a broken website. Here is how we engineer for the reality of 3G.

The "Heavy Web" Problem

Most modern websites are bloated. They assume everyone has Fiber internet. In Africa, data is expensive. If your site eats 50MB of a user's package just to load the homepage, they will hate you.

Our "Lite-First" Architecture

  1. Next/Image Optimization: We serve .webp or .avif images that are 90% smaller than JPEGs but look identical.
  2. Lazy Loading: We don't load the footer images until the user actually scrolls down to them.
  3. Code Splitting: We chop the JavaScript into tiny pieces. The browser only downloads the code needed for the exact button the user is looking at.

The Result

We build sites that feel "Instant" even on a Tecno phone with 2 bars of signal. That is how you win the mass market.
